Dementia & Alzheimer's Educational Talk
with Ayles Herrington, EP, MS
Wednesday, April 25th at 7:15 p.m.
in the Activities Center
3165 Dallas Highway Marietta, GA 30064
Durham Middle School teacher, Thomas Panter, had a vision of a volunteer project with local senior citizens and shared it with his students. Panter spoke about the older generation and the importance of their lifelong contributions.
Together, they set out to talk with seniors at our community with the intention of hearing their stories and then documenting local history before it’s too late. Simple, right? Yes, but as in other life lessons, these students got so much more in return than they could have thought possible.

Thank you, Mr. Shockley and his entire generation, for helping give us a chance to enjoy life without fear ... a lifestyle we often take for granted.
Ahhh, Springtime! That glorious time of year when everything begins to emerge from their hiding … including flowering bulbs suddenly appearing from the ground and springing to life brilliant colors. A time of new beginnings; perhaps a garden! After all, life did begin in a garden!
19th century English poet Alfred Austin wrote, “The Glory of gardening: hands in the dirt, head in the sun, heart with nature. To nurture a garden is to feed not just on the body, but the soul.” Austin foretold today’s scientific findings about the benefits of gardening. Whether 2 years old or 102, playing in the dirt is a rewarding pastime often handed down to us from previous generations.
