Community Heroes

Durham Middle School teacher, Thomas Panter, had a vision of a volunteer project with local senior citizens and shared it with his students. Panter spoke about the older generation and the importance of their lifelong contributions.

Together, they set out to talk with seniors at our community with the intention of hearing their stories and then documenting local history before it’s too late. Simple, right? Yes, but as in other life lessons, these students got so much more in return than they could have thought possible.

Click on the picture below to see Edward Shockley's heartwarming story on YouTube.

Thank you, Mr. Shockley and his entire generation, for helping give us a chance to enjoy life without fear ... a lifestyle we often take for granted.

To nurture a garden is to feed not just on the body, but the soul.” Austin foretold today’s scientific findings about the benefits of gardening.
